The Department of History headed by Capt. R. Venkaiah conducted the programme Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas on 15-11-2022 on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda (born 15-11-1875, died 09-06-1900), a great tribal leader of Jharkand, India.
I have conducted this programme as per the directions of UGC, New Delhi as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) unsung heroes of India.
As a part of this programme, I have explained about the life history of Birsa Munda of Jharkand state and also Komaram Bheem great leaders of the Tribals community of Telangana State, how they fought for the rights of the tribals, fought against the British, land lords, against the British forest policies (1865 Act & 1878 Act).
In india 40Crore tribal popuation is there as per the sensus. The main slogan of the movement is JAL JUNGLE and JAMEEN (Water, Forest and Land) and the main demand of this movement is we do not want the queen of England rule, we want our own rule, in this movement 460 members were killed by the British Army including Birsa Munda (born 15-11-1875 ,died 09-06-1900).This movement is started at 1989 around 7000 ladies and gents participated in this movement. It is spread in the districts of Kunthi,Thamar,Basia and Ranchi.Birsa Munda was passed away in the jail in 09-06-1900. Capt. R. Venkaiah also explained about the forest protection rules 2022 rough draft proposed by the parliament of India which is going to be implemented from the 2023 onwards the aim of this act is to give the rights to the corporate people to dig out bauxite from the lands of the forest for the development purpose as per the government argument but the critisicm this is benefit to the corporate people. If this Act will come to force, the tribal people will effect drastically and the tribals will lose their rights they got in the previous Acts like forest rights Acts 2006, Peesa Act 1996 and land procure Act and rehabilitation and compensation Act 2013.
Komaram Bheem (bron 22-10-1901, died 27-10-1940) belongs to Telangana region of the Nizam state. He belongs to Gond tribe. He fought against the Nizam forest Acts and also against the Jagirdars and Moneylenders who tried to seize the tribal lands. The main aim of this movement is jal jangal jameen(water, forest, land). It means the people who lived in the forest should have the right on the resources of the forest.I advised students to see the 1 statue of Komaram Bheem at tank bund road, Hyderabad 2 to see the Komaram Bheem tribal museum at Kerameri, Jodeghat Mandal, Aseefabad District (Old Adilabad district) of Telangana state.3.Adviced the students to visit the Adivaasi bhavan and sevalal banjara bhavan,Hyderabad.4.Advice the students to see the film that is released in the year 1990 on Komaram Bheem(Telugu Movie).Komaram Bheem was killed by the Nizam armed police persons.
